XSU self-controlled self-suction pump is a vertical centrifugal pump made for quick and stable liquid transfer. It can be mounted above the liquid level, so the motor and main working parts are easy to check.
People also call this pump WFB no-seal self-controlled self-priming pump. It joins a centrifugal pump, a self-priming chamber, and an automatic air-control system. It can remove air from the suction pipe and start pumping without a submerged motor or long drive shaft.
The compact vertical design also saves floor space. The pump can also be made in different metals and corrosion-resistant materials. It suits drainage, wastewater transfer, chemical processing, tank unloading, and other industrial jobs.
How the Self-Control System Works
Before the first start, you must fill the pump and set it up according to the operation manual. During operation, the air-control system helps remove trapped air from the suction line. Then the pump can pull liquid into the casing and start normal centrifugal pumping.
A power seal works while the pump runs. An auxiliary sealing device supports the unit during shutdown. Since the standard design does not use a traditional dynamic mechanical seal, it can cut common seal maintenance in suitable services.
But the suction pipe must stay airtight. A leaking joint, blocked inlet, or too-high suction height may stop proper priming.

You must choose the real flow, head, suction lift, motor power, and connection size for your operating point.
Material Options
The material choice directly affects pump life and process safety.
Cast iron works well for clean water and many general drainage jobs. Cast steel gives more strength for tough industrial systems. Stainless steel is also available for many corrosive liquids and clean process uses.
For stronger acids or alkalis, you can consider reinforced plastic, UHMWPE, or fluoropolymer-lined parts. But we must check chemical compatibility against the exact liquid concentration, temperature, and solids content before production.
If the liquid has abrasive particles, you can also consider our UHB corrosion-resistant mortar pump.
Common Applications
The self-controlled self-suction pump can serve many industrial and public systems, such as:
- Wastewater collection and drainage
- Chemical liquid transfer
- Tank unloading and emptying
- Emergency flood-control stations
- Cooling-water circulation
- Municipal water and sewage projects
- Power plant and steel mill drainage
- Mining and mineral processing
- Electroplating and surface treatment
- Textile, paper, and dyeing plants
- Marine or seawater service with compatible materials
If the pump must stay inside a pit or tank, an FY vertical sump pump may be a better fit. For clean-water pipe boosting without priming needs, see the ISW horizontal pipeline pump.
Manufacturer Selection and Custom Service
XSU Pump selects each unit by the real duty point, not only by pipe size. Our engineers check the required flow, total head, liquid type, density, viscosity, temperature, particle content, suction height, and piping layout.
We can also set up:
- Pump body and wetted-part materials
- Motor voltage and frequency
- Flange standards
- Outdoor or approved hazardous-area motors
- Automatic control panels
- Base sizes and connection positions
- Spare parts for planned maintenance
- OEM labels and project documents
Before production, customers can get a technical selection sheet for approval. It helps confirm the pump model, motor power, materials, and operating limits.

Installation and Operating Guidance
Install the pump on a firm, level base. Also, keep the suction pipe short, sealed, and free from unnecessary high points. The pipe diameter should not be smaller than the selected pump inlet.
Fill and set up the pump as the manual says before its first run. Never run it dry unless the approved setup is made for that condition. Also, check motor rotation before connecting the pump to the full process.
Operators should watch vibration, noise, bearing temperature, flow, and discharge pressure. If the pump loses prime, stop it and check the suction line, liquid level, air-control device, and inlet condition.
Qualified personnel must do electrical work and hazardous-area installation under local rules.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the pump need water before its first start?
Yes. The casing usually needs initial filling and correct setup. After that, the self-control system helps later starts under suitable conditions.
Can it pump wastewater?
Yes. Selected models can move wastewater and liquids with limited particles. But we must confirm particle size and concentration before selection.
Can it handle corrosive chemicals?
Yes. Stainless steel, reinforced plastic, UHMWPE, and lined options are available. The final material depends on the exact chemical and temperature.
Is the motor submerged?
No. The motor sits above the pump and liquid level. This makes inspection and maintenance easier.
